Ancient Apparition
[wiki] rating: 2.0 (winrate: 53% pickrate: 9%)Bloodseeker
[wiki] rating: 2.0 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 4%)Io
* Thirst allows Bloodseeker to see where Io relocated to, should either Io or the tethered hero have low health.
* Rupture forces Io to stay in place, preventing it from using the Tether bonus movement speed to escape.
Warlock
* Blood Rite can silence Warlock, which as a spellcaster is bad for him.
* Rupture prevents Warlock from moving without taking damage, which due to his general lack of escapes is bad for him, and when combined with Blood Rite can be a very lethal combo.
Lycan
[wiki] rating: 1.6 (winrate: 56% pickrate: 4%)Warlock
* Shapeshift allows Lycan to escape from
Upheaval with 650 movement speed.
* Warlock doesn't have a lot of AoE abilities to deal with Lycan's wolves from Summon Wolves.
Io
* Heroes with low armor and little mobility, like Huskar,
Io, etc. will also have an unfortunate fate.
Spirit Breaker
[wiki] rating: 1.6 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 8%)Io
* Charge of Darkness can be used to escape or counter-initiate against a Relocate gank.
* Greater Bash and
Nether Strike is devastating due to Io's low armor, and can even knock it away from tethered target.
Warlock
* Warlock is a very strong hero when positioned correctly, and his long cast range helps him with this. However, some Heroes might disrupt or sneakily pass through your allies and deal with you, preventing you from doing your job. Such heroes include Chaos Knight,
Spirit Breaker,
Riki, and some others.
Riki
[wiki] rating: 1.2 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 17%)Warlock
* Warlock is a very strong hero when positioned correctly, and his long cast range helps him with this. However, some Heroes might disrupt or sneakily pass through your allies and deal with you, preventing you from doing your job. Such heroes include Chaos Knight,
Spirit Breaker,
Riki, and some others.
Io
* Heroes that can easily bypass Io's allies to get to Io: Riki,
Tusk,
Clinkz,
Sniper
Death Prophet
[wiki] rating: 1.2 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 3%)Io
* Heroes that are hard to gank: Axe,
Death Prophet,
Phantom Lancer
Warlock
* Because all of Warlock's abilities are active abilities, silences can make his impact in fights minimal. Be cautious of heroes that carry silences like Death Prophet,
Puck, and the aforementioned
Silencer.
Nyx Assassin
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 54% pickrate: 15%)Warlock
* Impale interrupts
Upheaval.
* Nyx Assassin Vendetta allows him to escape from Warlock's
Upheaval with maximum move speed.
* Warlock's low health pool and mobility can easily take down by Nyx Assassin's burst damage.
Clinkz
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 52% pickrate: 5%)Io
* Strafe and
Searing Arrows allow Clinkz to quickly kill Io due to its low armor.
Dark Seer
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 3%)Warlock
* Surge allows for Dark Seer and his allies to escape from
Upheaval due to it ignoring any slow.
Treant Protector
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 5%)Io
* Living Armor can be used to save a hero from a Relocate gank.
Winter Wyvern
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 5%)Io
* Cold Embrace can render the extra attack speed from Overcharge meaningless.
* Splinter Blast and
Winter's Curse are very affective against Io, as it has to stay close to its tethered hero.
Luna
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 4%)Io
* Lucent Beam can cancel Tether and Relocate.
* Moon Glaives and
Eclipse make short work of Io and its tethered ally.
Ogre Magi
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 15%)Io
* Ignite has long duration damage-over-time and prevents Io from healing his Tethered ally.
Weaver
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 8%)Warlock
* Weaver's Shukuchi allows him to escape from Warlock's
Upheaval with maximum move speed.
* His ultimate Time Lapse allows him to ignore damage from {U:Warlock Golem} and escape.
Lich
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 11%)Io
* Lich's Chain Frost forces Io to give up providing buff to his ally with
Tether or suffer devastating damage with his tethered ally.
* Lich could easily use Sinister Gaze to disable Io from getting away with
Tether or
Relocate.
Disruptor
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 8%)Io
* Glimpse directly negates Relocate.
Additional:
* Disruptor can always Glimpse back Io or his target after he Relocated nearby.
* Even better, thanks to the indicator on the ground, you can even preemptively drop Static Storm and Kinetic Field on the spot they will relocate to.
* Thunder Strike and Glimpse are also good tools to bring back an Io that Tethered away in the fog of war.
Leshrac
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 48% pickrate: 3%)Io
* Lightning Storm will usually hit both Io and its tethered target since both will be close enough for the lightning to jump.
* Diabolic Edict and
Pulse Nova hit all units near Leshrac, meaning he can do colossal damage to Io and its tethered target.
Additional:
* Lightning Storm will usually hit both Io and his Tethered target since both will be close enough for the lightning to jump. It can then be followed up by Split Earth.
* Diabolic Edict and Pulse Nova hit all units near Leshrac, meaning he can do colossal damage to Io and his Tethered target.
Silencer
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 48% pickrate: 7%)Warlock
* Because Warlock's abilities are all active abilities, Silencer can make his impact minimal.
* Arcane Curse prevents Warlock from using his abilities without taking 56/84/112/140 damage, and slowed by 9%/12%/15%/18%.
* Last Word can prevent Warlock from casting his combo.
* Global Silence can nullify Warlock's impact in fights and prevent him from getting any spells off.
Slark
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 47% pickrate: 13%)Warlock
* Upheaval does not interrupt Slark too much, as he can just Pounce out of the area.
* Fatal Bonds and
Shadow Word can be dispelled by Dark Pact.
Anti-Mage
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 47% pickrate: 14%)Warlock
* Mana Break prevents Warlock from casting his spells.
* Blink allows Anti-Mage to escape from
Upheaval.
* Counterspell reduces damage from
Shadow Word and the {U:Warlock Golem}'s
Permanent Immolation.
* Mana Void deals heavy damage after
Chaotic Offering and interrupts
Upheaval.
Grimstroke
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 47% pickrate: 12%)Io
* Grimstroke can catch Io and his ally easily with SoulBind as Io has a tendency to tether himself with an ally frequently.
* Io is highly vulnerable to disables. Hence, Grimstroke's Phantom's Embrace is a great ability to hinder Io's potential.
Additional:
* Soulbind can target both Io and its Tethered ally, allowing Grimstroke and his team to target both with single target spells. Should Io try to
Relocate, Phantom's Embrace can stop its channel to prevent escape.
Ember Spirit
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 46% pickrate: 9%)Warlock
* A pre-placed Fire Remnant allows Ember Spirit to escape
Upheaval.
* Flame Guard blocks
Shadow Word's damage.
* Sleight of Fist allows Ember Spirit to attack from range, ignoring
Upheaval, and
Searing Chains lets him interrupt it.
Bristleback
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 46% pickrate: 9%)Io
* Quill Spray is very effective against Io, as it has very low armor and has to stay close to the fight to not break its Tether.
Phantom Assassin
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 46% pickrate: 15%)Io
* Phantom Strike allows Phantom Assassin jump directly to Io.
* Coup de Grace makes short work of Io's low health and armor.
Kunkka
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 45% pickrate: 4%)Warlock
* Ghostship helps your team soak up damage from Chaotic Offering and hit summons hard.
* Tidebringer clears summons later in the game.
* Most of your spells can interrupt Upheaval.
Sven
[wiki] rating: 1.0 (winrate: 43% pickrate: 1%)Warlock
* With God's Strength, Warlock Golem goes down in a matter of seconds. The two weaker golems granted by Aghanim's Scepter will fare worse due to Great Cleave hitting both.
* Storm Hammer upgraded with level 15 talent dispels Shadow Word.
Additional:
* God's Strength combined with
Great Cleave destroys Chaotic Offering golems within seconds.
Bounty Hunter
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 53% pickrate: 9%)Io
* Fragile heroes: Bounty Hunter has decent nuking capabilities with Shiruken Toss and Jinada thus making fragile heroes easy picks for ganking. Few examples of such heroes are:Crystal Maiden,
Pugna,
Skywrath Mage,
Io,
Witch Doctor, etc.
Puck
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 53% pickrate: 18%)Warlock
* Because all of Warlock's abilities are active abilities, silences can make his impact in fights minimal. Be cautious of heroes that carry silences like Death Prophet,
Puck, and the aforementioned
Silencer.
Necrophos
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 3%)Warlock
* Heroes that have small health pools and little to no escape mechanisms are even easier prey for Necrophos. Ghost Shroud's slow will allow him to catch him with them, and get nuked down with his abilities, even preventing retaliation due to Reaper's Scythe's stun. Such heroes include Crystal Maiden,
Witch Doctor,
Warlock or
Shadow Fiend.
Ursa
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 16%)Warlock
* Ursa can shred {U:Warlock Golem}s in a few seconds with
Fury Swipes and
Overpower.
Earth Spirit
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 9%)Io

Crystal Maiden,
Lina...), as Earth Spirit can deal tons of damage with Magnetize.
Phantom Lancer
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 8%)Io
* Heroes that are hard to gank: Axe,
Death Prophet,
Phantom Lancer
Tusk
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 7%)Io
* Heroes that can easily bypass Io's allies to get to Io: Riki,
Tusk,
Clinkz,
Sniper
Chaos Knight
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 48% pickrate: 3%)Warlock
* Warlock is a very strong hero when positioned correctly, and his long cast range helps him with this. However, some Heroes might disrupt or sneakily pass through your allies and deal with you, preventing you from doing your job. Such heroes include Chaos Knight,
Spirit Breaker,
Riki, and some others.
Legion Commander
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 48% pickrate: 13%)Warlock
* Heroes who rely on summons will see them destroyed easily by Overwhelming Odds: Lycan,
Arc Warden,
Warlock,
Chen
Io
* Duel is very effective against Io due to its low health and armor.
Io
* Tethered heroes are much harder for Legion Commander to kill in Duels.
* Relocate can cancel Duels and save allies.
Axe
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 47% pickrate: 9%)Io
* Heroes that are hard to gank: Axe,
Death Prophet,
Phantom Lancer
Tiny
[wiki] rating: 0.6 (winrate: 45% pickrate: 6%)Io
* Squishy heroes, usually supports, like Io,
Ancient Apparition,
Keeper of the Light etc can die instantly from Tiny's magic burst.
Sniper
[wiki] rating: 0.4 (winrate: 47% pickrate: 6%)Io
* Take Aim and
Assassinate allow Sniper to reach Io even if it stays in the backline.
Io
* Heroes with high mobility can approach Sniper: Anti-Mage,
Earth Spirit,
Io,
Nature's Prophet,
Pangolier,
Puck,
Queen of Pain and most notably
Riki.
Meepo
[wiki] rating: -2.0 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 1%)Io
* Tether helps Io escape from Earthbind even if Meepo has Blink Dagger.
* Io's Spirits can pressure Meepo while laning and will usually hit at least one of his clones.
Warlock
* Fatal Bonds links the Meepos together.
Drow Ranger
[wiki] rating: -1.6 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 6%)Warlock
* While heroes with strong mobility able to get close/flee or long range disables do well against him, heroes with no escaping abilities/lacking long disables will perish against Warlock. Once the {U:Warlock Golem} lands with its stun, its hardly possible to escape when he casts Upheaval. Just watch your pet burn the enemies as they try running away or blow their strongest abilities to stop your {U:Warlock Golem}. Notable examples:
Huskar,
Drow Ranger,
Lion,
Elder Titan, etc.
Io
* Drow Ranger's lack of escape abilities makes her an easy target for Relocate ganks.
Shadow Fiend
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 46% pickrate: 18%)Warlock
* Lacking escaping mechanisms, being dependent on fair positioning and channeling for his ultimate, its easier to Warlock with your long range crowd control abilities to lock the Shadow Fiend down to your team.
Pudge
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 46% pickrate: 19%)Io
* Tether and Overcharge makes it much harder for Pudge to kill a target with Meat Hook, and Relocate can save the Io's ally while
Dismember is being channeled.
Hoodwink
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 16%)Warlock
* Chaotic Offering's vast area-effect can destroy trees and stun Hoodwink.
* Upheaval makes retreating with Scurry difficult.
Huskar
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 2%)Warlock
* {U:Warlock Golem}s do plenty of physical and pure damage to bring down Huskar when he is at low health. Warlock is always a hazard for Huskar to initiate by using Life Break because
Chaotic Offering can stun him instantly, even when
Black King Bar is activated, and allow Warlock's team to gather their wit and retaliate.
* After jumping in, Huskar will not have any means to escape Upheaval. Being an attack-dependent hero, this is bad for him.
Phoenix
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 10%)Io
* Phoenix's limit AoE, damage-over-time abilities give Io plenty of time to save allies with Relocate.
Monkey King
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 17%)Warlock
* Chaotic Offering can destroy the tree Monkey King is standing on.
* Shadow Word and
Fatal Bonds constantly puts Tree Dance on cooldown.
Underlord
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 53% pickrate: 9%)Io
* Io can escape from Pit of Malice with Tether or Relocate.
* Relocate can counter Dark Rift's split pushing.
Enigma
[wiki] rating: -1.0 (winrate: 55% pickrate: 6%)Warlock
* Chaotic Offering's spell immunity piercing stun can stop Black Hole's channeling. Due to this ability's large area of effect, it can be cast at a safe distance from the Black Hole.
* Fatal Bonds can be used to make Enigma's Eidolons easier to kill, potentially feeding the enemy team.
* Warlock's Upheaval can interfere with Enigma's initiation and potential follow-ups thanks to its large AoE.
Additional:
* Chaotic Offering pierces spell immunity and is an area of effect ability, therefore it doesn't matter if Enigma buys
Black King Bar or
Linken's Sphere Warlock will always be able to cancel channeling of
Black Hole.
* Enemies often get clumped up around Black Hole giving Warlock a perfect opportunity to cast
Fatal Bonds and
Upheaval on multiple enemies.
Nature's Prophet
[wiki] rating: -0.6 (winrate: 45% pickrate: 7%)Io
* Io can
Relocate with an ally to gank Nature's Prophet when he tries to push. Underlord can use his
Dark Rift as well.
Additional:
* Nature's Prophet is extremely easy to gank with Relocate while he's split pushing.
* Tether on a friendly unit can destroy Nature Prophet's trees should he surround himself with Sprout as a defense.
Viper
[wiki] rating: -0.6 (winrate: 47% pickrate: 5%)Warlock
* Viper cannot interrupt heroes with powerful channeling abilities: Bane,
Enigma,
Shadow Shaman,
Warlock
Crystal Maiden
[wiki] rating: -0.6 (winrate: 49% pickrate: 14%)Warlock
* Channeling heroes will not go well against Warlock, especially those who build Black King Bar as Warlock's ultimate ability stun goes through spell immunity. E.g.:
Crystal Maiden,
Shadow Fiend,
Enigma, etc.
Lion
[wiki] rating: -0.6 (winrate: 50% pickrate: 16%)Warlock
* While heroes with strong mobility able to get close/flee or long range disables do well against him, heroes with no escaping abilities/lacking long disables will perish against Warlock. Once the {U:Warlock Golem} lands with its stun, its hardly possible to escape when he casts Upheaval. Just watch your pet burn the enemies as they try running away or blow their strongest abilities to stop your {U:Warlock Golem}. Notable examples:
Huskar,
Drow Ranger,
Lion,
Elder Titan, etc.
Earthshaker
[wiki] rating: -0.6 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 13%)Warlock
* Warlock often stays back and counter-initiates by dropping his
Chaotic Offering on Earthshaker and his allies.
Elder Titan
[wiki] rating: -0.6 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 1%)Warlock
* While heroes with strong mobility able to get close/flee or long range disables do well against him, heroes with no escaping abilities/lacking long disables will perish against Warlock. Once the {U:Warlock Golem} lands with its stun, its hardly possible to escape when he casts Upheaval. Just watch your pet burn the enemies as they try running away or blow their strongest abilities to stop your {U:Warlock Golem}. Notable examples:
Huskar,
Drow Ranger,
Lion,
Elder Titan, etc.
Juggernaut
[wiki] rating: -0.6 (winrate: 52% pickrate: 18%)Io
* Heroes with abilities that can save teammates are also effective such as Shadow Demon,
Dazzle,
Oracle,
Bane,
Pugna,
Tusk,
Winter Wyvern,
Io,
Underlord,
Treant Protector and
Keeper of the Light.
Doom
[wiki] rating: 0.0 (winrate: 46% pickrate: 2%)Warlock
* Supports with useful teamfight or contribution spells will be helpless against Doom: Dazzle,
Oracle,
Warlock.
Io
* Heroes with the ability to heal allies, or those with good defensive abilities: (Chen,
Dazzle,
Io,
Oracle,
Omniknight,
Witch Doctor,
Winter Wyvern, (
Abaddon, etc.
Templar Assassin
[wiki] rating: 0.0 (winrate: 51% pickrate: 5%)Warlock
* Fragile supports with low armor are always a good prey, also her Psionic Trap will wear down most attempts to flee with their built-in disables: Silencer,
Crystal Maiden,
Warlock,
Ancient Apparition,
Grimstroke,
Witch Doctor
Warlock
* Because Templar Assassin does not have escape potential in lane, any support hero with roaming potential and a Dust of Appearance can be great at shutting her down early game:
Earth Spirit,
Spirit Breaker,
Tusk,
Bounty Hunter,
Riki,
Warlock.
Additional:
* Warlock can cast Upheaval when Templar Assassin uses
Meld, preventing escape.
* Warlock can also send his {U:Warlock Golem} near where she used Meld, preventing escape by
Blink Dagger due to the {U:Warlock Golem}
Permanent Immolation.
To start select enemy heroes in the field above. It's intended to be used with multiple heroes. The more enemy heroes you provide the better results you will get.
About
This website was made to help you in pick stage of online game Dota 2. It calculates rating for each possible counterpicks based on tips from web-based database made up entirely of user contributions Dota 2 wiki.
You will get the list of recommended hero counters with a list of tips written by Dota 2 wiki contributors explaining why it's good against the particular hero. In comparison to other similar websites, which show only rating based on average hero winrate from dotabuff or similar service.
How to interpret this data
Take it with a bit of grain of salt, especially if the recommendation has a low rating (<= 1), some heroes
may win a lane in an early game but would lose in late game (and vice versa). That's why sometimes
you could hero names appearing as a counter and as being countered, as on image:
You can also add your own tips, update old data and fix mistakes by editing page on Dota 2 Wiki (it works like Wikipedia - anyone can contribute, you don't even need to register) these edits will appear on this website automatically (data is updated several times per week).
Right now there is no app/overlay that will detect picks automatically (like overwolf dota plus or become the gamer), instead, you can open web version in a steam in-game browser or use mobile version on your smartphone.
